Voorkamer is an artist-run initiative by Peter Morrens and Rik De Boe. It presents a platform for solo and thematic exhibitions to both national and international contemporary artists. Since 1996, it has been Voorkamer’s main objective to create an independent context for artists to display their work.
Apart from these exhibitions held at the Holy Ghost site in the Belgian city of Lier, group exhibitions as well as collaborations with other artist-run initiatives and art organizations are staged at different locations. Each project implies a specific approach that reflects its architectural, historical and social value.
Unlike mainstream contemporary art initiatives Voorkamer puts an alternative curatorial approach into practice by focusing on an artist driven perspective. Exhibitions are defined by personal, associative rather than theoretic or academic propositions. By introducing a delicate sense of humor and despair as constructive elements in the process of staging an art show Voorkamer stands for an uncommon but open approach to experiencing contemporary art.
