Urgent paradise is a space dedicated to contemporary art, open from January 1st, 2012 to Lausanne, Switzerland. This place aims first of all to democratize the system of exhibitions on contest and challenge the notion of artistic elite. Imagined by four visual arts graduates and a lawyer, Urgent Paradise is a place open and dynamic cultural exchange. During its first two years of existence, UP has chosen to recruit its exhibiting artists by classifieds. Disposed in schools, shops, cafes and on billboards posters were renewed every two months to offer a program of six exhibitions per year. Following the availability of a living space in 2014, Urgent Paradise offers artists the opportunity to invest its premises in a form of residence and work collectively to imagine together an exhibition. In parallel, the collective behind UP is regularly invited to intervene outside its walls in Switzerland and abroad. Indeed, in addition to questioning various models of exposure, UP also aspires to open up to the exchange linguistic and national by bridging the gap between the different Swiss cultural actors.
