Oksasenkatu 11 is an artist-run gallery and an artist collective located in the district of Töölö in central Helsinki. The collective consists of a small group of artists, with different practices, but with a shared interest in working outside the established and institutionalised art world. Today there is a growing need among artists for regaining a certain sovereignty, and Oksasenkatu is our humble attempt in this direction. For this purpose, Oksasenkatu seeks to maintain a critical distance and independence, and focus on collaboration. The objective is to create a space forconversation and to offer artists an opportunity to react to what is happening in theirsurroundings and get their thoughts and works visible more easily in the current situation.
The exhibitions in the gallery are curated by one member of the collective at a time. Besides exhibitions, the gallery hosts various events such as workshops, screenings and seminars. The collective has also created group shows andinstallations together, and organised happenings.
