melklokaal (milk room) is an exhibition space for contemporary art at the crossroads of artist initiative and art gallery and was founded in 2014 by Albert Oost (artist) and
Monique Vogelsang (graphic designer), who want to offer an up-to-date overview of different generations of artists in different disciplines.
melklokaal organizes six to eight contemporary and stimulating exhibitions each year, with a broad range of regional but also national artists selected by melklokaal on a basis of personal involvement and affinity with their work, ranging from solo and group exhibitions to installations, projects or work in progress.
melklokaal focuses on a lasting contribution to the latest developments of the artists shown and on a valuable stimulus for the visual arts in the region.
melklokaal is located in the former ‘Jagtlust’ dairy in Heerenveen, in the area where milk was originally brought in. On the ground floor melklokaal occupies two rooms for contemporary art and on the first floor, it has ROOM (cream), a space for projects, experimental art and installations. Finally, in TANK melklokaal ‘preserves’ the work of artists associated with the gallery.
