MARS opened in Milan on December 3, 2008.
A reality all managed by artists and meant for an audience eager to to know more intimately the “engines” of contemporary art, MARS, located in the Pasteur area of Milan, was born after an idea by Lorenza Boisi who, together with other artists, launched a programme of exhibitions, performances and art events modelled on the most notorious artist-run spaces in Europe.
After ten years, MARS continues to document the kaleidoscopic phenomenologies of emerging and established art practices on both the Italian and international level.
MARS’ approach to contemporary themes is multifaceted and is expressed through site-specific installations, solo and collective shows, participatory projects and special events organized outside MARS’ boundaries in such venues as international art fairs and museums in Italy and abroad.
MARS is thus a desired accident, a physical space and, above all, a project in itself which chooses to not be organically structured and to maintain a calendar that can progressively meet the artistic needs of its various participants.
As a box of potential, MARS is a flawed white-cube and a receptacle of countless, bountiful diversities heralding a mixture and a big charge of creative energy.
Currently MARS is directed by founder and director Lorenza Boisi together with co-directors Yari Miele and Fabio Carnaghi. Elena Sanfelice works with us as directors’ assistant.
Projects are by invitation only and are managed directly by the directors. Thus, we do not accept unsolicited proposals and consider only those from independent art spaces and institutions.
